The minibus project developed from an original idea put forward by George and Liz Wiltshire early in 1996. After a favourable response, following a survey, a committee was formed to organise financing and management of such a project. With grants, fund raising, generous loans and advice from neighbouring parishes, a  ‘Transit’ Minibus was purchased to begin the first ‘journey’ in the Summer of 1996.

Sadly, as most local people will be aware, George Wiltshire passed away during 2010, resulting in the need for a new Committee to be formed, including the election of a new Chairman – the details of which will be found in the accompany links (see below).

Following the formation of a new Committee, one of the first tasks which was required was the on-going process of ensuring that, as a Charity, the Aston Parish Community Minibus complied with all statutory requirements, coupled with those of the Charity Commission.

Provision of the Minibus enables those parishioners who have little, or no, access to transport to do shopping and organise outings. Presently the Minibus provides the ability for shopping trips every Thursday to Witney and every third Wednesday of the month to Swindon (ASDA). There is also a trip to Lidel (Witney) on the last Monday of each month. In addition there is also a monthly trip to the shopping centre of Swindon on the first Saturday of each month, a trip suspended due to the recent bad weather, but which it is planned to restart in March 2011.

In addition to the above, the Minibus is available for hire, on a self-drive basis, to all living within the “area of benefit” (see Constitution for terms of availability) subject to conditions of hire.
